We have been working super hard over the past year to reduce our environmental impact, so it only seemed right to re-launch the educational range to be bigger, better and eco-friendly.

Zimpli’s educational range includes the bestselling, totally unique Gelli Play and Slime Play; turning water into biodegradable Gelli or Slime, plus some exciting new additions; Crackle Play Colours, Sno Play and Fantasy and Dino Play packs.

We have developed our ever so popular Gelli Play instructions to show just how versatile it is. By altering the powder to water ratio, you can create Gelli Modelling, a whole new way to play – build shapes, characters or even Gelli sandcastles.

Head of Marketing, Jessica Coy commented “The great thing about our products is that they are extremely versatile with many uses such as; multi-sensory play, messy play and in educational environments along with benefits for children with Autism & sensory issues”

Zimpli have moved from plastic bags to paper bags which can be recycled with the retail box and leaflet in standard paper/card recycling.

It isn’t just the educational range that has had an eco-makeover, all of Zimpli’s retail boxes and CDU’s have been changed to recycled board

Zimpli Kids now manufacture 95%+ of our products in our company owned UK factory with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.

The Gelli and Slime powder is a certified biodegradable toy after both passing the Bio-degradation Test OECD 301B as tested by Intertek. The OECD 301B test adds a product to sewerage, and measures its rate of bio-degradation. Zimpli Kids products are classed as biodegradable according to the standard.

Benefits of Sensory play for Autism

3/5/2020

When a child is born, they use their senses to discover the world around them, these senses include smell, sound, sight, taste and touch. This is usually the reason why parents must keep both eyes on their kids 24/7, as we normally find babies and toddlers trying to put everything into their mouths; this is only because they are trying to explore everything around them!

Children with autism can have difficulty with sensory stimulation as well as social communication and interaction. The benefits of sensory play for autistic children is huge.

It not only encourages them to focus on something with their hands to improve coordination, it can stimulate the brain and provide them with a sense of calm.

The texture, scent and bright colours of our Gelli and Slime stimulates their senses and allows them to explore their likes and dislikes when it comes to sensory play.
Picture
What is Sensory Play?

Sensory Play are activities which help stimulate the senses. Such activities promote and naturally encourage children with autism to play, create, investigate and explore all whilst they use scientific processes during these activities which help them develop such things like:

  • Language Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Cognitive Development
  • Creative Development
  • Physical Development

Sensory Play is perfect for helping children understand and develop their understanding of sensory information, therefore, increasing and creating stronger connections in the brain. By allowing children to partake in activities which are varied, fun and exciting this will grant autistic children the opportunity to expand on their understanding of their senses and take control of their own sensory experiences.
Activities for Autism and how Zimpli can help

So, we bet you’re wondering why we’ve been rambling on about Sensory Play, when you want to hear about how Zimpli Kids products can help instead? Well, we have you covered with a super fun variety of activities that are perfect for autism and sensory play.

Tuff Trays

Tuff Trays are the perfect mini activity which will really challenge and test a child’s sensory skills.

Creating a Tuff Tray is like creating a piece of artwork, art is whatever you want it to be and the same goes for creating a tuff tray.

This activity is great for boosting a child’s concentration and imaginative skills, it will also allow them to get used to feeling, smelling and seeing the different varieties of Gelli and Slime products that we offer.

Sensory Tub
You may think that a sensory tub is like a tuff tray, however you’d think wrong. Sensory tubs are great for their ease and are an amazing idea for a rainy day. All you’ll need to do is grab your child’s favourite toy i.e. toy dinosaurs, action figures and etc; then use one of our many products either Slime or Gelli and ‘hey presto’, you have yourself a sensory tub.

Adding characters will enable an autistic child to create magical worlds all whilst getting used to the touch, smell and sound of Slime and Gelli. You could also throw in some of our pop-tastic Crackle Baff for an extra sensory twist!

Sensory Bags

We understand that not all autistic children are the same, they all have different things that they love and hate. We’ve been told a couple of times by parents that their child hasn’t been a massive fan of the way our products feel, which is absolutely fine!

This challenged us as a team to create other ideas of how all children can enjoy our products. We came up with the idea of Sensory Bags or how we like to call them ‘feely bags’. All, you’ll need is a couple of zip lock bags, so you’ll have no need to worry about any leakages. Therefore, creating a brilliant sensory activity for children who are still getting used to the feel of foreign or unusual materials.

Crackle Baff Colours

As mentioned before our Crackle Baff Colours is the ultimate sensory product! Bursting with pop and crackle sounds and vivid colours, it’s the perfect product for kid’s who are that bit more adventurous.

Crackle Baff is great for a unique bath time experience or it can be used in a tub for messy play!

For a super amazing activity, you can also get experimental by adding a variety of our products together in a bowl too see what gooey creations you can make with your child. Add in some Crackle at the end for a super cool result!
What do Parents think?

On a daily basis, we reach out to many influencers to review our products and we ask them to give us honest opinions about our Gelli and Slime. We’ve recently started reaching out to more parents who are struggling to find activities which will help their child with autism. Here is what a couple of them had to say:

Zimpli Kids is a UK-based company that specializes in sensory play products. Their flagship products are Slime Baff and Gelli Baff, which transform ordinary water into a thick slime and goo, respectively. They both provide for really unique textures.
“     My 6 year old on the other hand was not sure and certainly not keen on the idea of jumping in like his brother. He struggles with new things as he needs processing time and the idea that you can have a green bath was new to him. We put some of the Slime Baff in the sink for him to play with and get used to the texture first. After about 10 minutes he joined his brother in the bath.”
Faye is a real sensory seeker; she seeks out sensory feedback constantly. We plan lots of sensory time into our day to day activities to meets Faye’s sensory needs. Faye spent a long time playing with the slime, adding in some bath toys halfway through her bath. Faye particularly enjoyed letting the slime drip through her bath net.”

We believe that in today’s modern world everyone should be doing their best to help save the environment one tiny step at a time. At Zimpli Kids being green is very important to us and we believe that creating a fully eco-friendly range is the new frontier to making those small steps which will eventually help to save our planet.
What does Eco-friendly mean?
The simplest definition of eco-friendly is something that is ‘not harmful to the environment’.

In depth, eco-friendly means being friendly to the earth and changing the way we use our resources.
We can do this by being more conservative with our water and energy, basically living a greener lifestyle.
Also, by making more products eco-friendly this prevents harsh pollutions to water, landfills even to the air around us.

Eco-Friendly Toys
Today most retailers and manufacturers are guilty of majorly misusing plastic materials by ‘over sizing’ and ‘overusing’ plastic packaging due to the easy accessibility of it.

Due to the many years of overusing plastic materials it has had a massive effect on many businesses carbon footprints and the pollution of plastic materials being dumped into landfills, rivers and oceans causing nano and micro plastics to damage our wildlife. It is imperative that we imprint an example onto the next generation of how crucial it is not to misuse plastic materials!

More and more companies and parents alike are starting to understand the importance of this issue and are realising the fact that, ‘Plastic is not fantastic’, and that other materials can be used.

We are determined to make a difference and save the planet one Gelli Baff at a time by becoming more and more driven to do our part in saving the environment! All of our packaging is 100% recyclable, made from recycled board and all our powders are certified biodegradable.
Going Green with Zimpli Kids
Our fabulous Zimpli team put their heads together to create our super-duper Eco-Range with our bestselling Gelli Play and Slime Play!

Recyclable Box, Leaflet and Bags

Minimum sized packaging
We use a box that fits exactly the size of the bags, therefore, creating no excess waste materials.

Packaging made from recycled board
We have chosen to change all our retail and CDU boxes to recycled board and have a plain white background on four of the sides of the box to reduce our environmental impact.

The Benefits of Sensory & Messy Play for Child Development

2/19/2020

Sensory Play with Gelli and Slime Play
What is Sensory Play?

Before we start to talk about the benefits of Sensory Play, here is a simple explanation of what it is.

Sensory Play is an activity that helps to stimulate the children’s senses of touch, hearing, taste, sight and smell. It is the perfect opportunity for children to explore all five of their senses and use them to explore the world around them.

The sensory market has become extremely important for Zimpli Kids and really has opened up a new audience for us. Parents are now starting to introduce sensory play to their children from a really early age, even as young as 12 months – as it has been proven to help with child development.

Due to the unique goo like texture, bright colours and sweet scents of Zimpli Kids best selling products Gelli Baff and Slime Baff, it has been used in multi-sensory and messy play all over the world. This has encouraged us to delve into the world of sensory play, to learn how these activities (and our products) benefit your little ones.

Social & Emotional Development

Through sensory or messy play activities children learn to
co-operate and it provides them with the opportunity to work together as a team. Gathering round a sensory table gives them opportunity to express themselves and to feel good about their decision-making skills.

Cognitive Development

Sensory play is fantastic for cognitive development, to allow children to explore and figure new things they might never have experienced before. Whether it’s changing the colour of water, magically transforming water into goo or slime or making the water crackle and pop! This all helps children see and understand that if you add ‘this’ to ‘that’ you can create something new and unique.
Creative Development

Using creative thinking skills and expressing creativity are important self-esteem builders and can be developed through sensory play activities. Gelli and slime provide the perfect base for your child’s imagination to run wild and develop their creativity. Why not give them a go…

  • Add Dino figures into green Slime Play to create a sensory swamp.
  • Have a go at Gelli Modelling and get creative; building shapes, characters or even Gelli sandcastles!
  • Try picking up the Slime Play with Sieves and colanders to create a slimy waterfall!
  • Use our SnoPlay and some artic animals to create a snowy, artic adventure
  • Click here to view more sensory playtime ideas
“This Slime Baff must be the most popular sensory play invitation we’ve had ALL year! I set up an ocean themed tuff tray with the slime, sand and shells which has encouraged lots of mixing and
exploring the changing of textures. Half of one packet made 3 full tanks, so it’s definitely a fab investment”
Physical Development

Sensory play is really important for developing children’s physical skills as most activities require multiple muscles to work together. Especially with our products, children reinforce and practice their small motor skills while pouring water, measuring powder, stirring and manipulating the goo or slime. They learn to control and give their bodies directions to accomplish tasks as they explore the new, unique texture.
“This was actually the first time we had explored Gelli and Little was amazed, diving her hands straight in to explore! Little did lots of scooping and pouring, filling, used her imagination to bake a cake and make a smoothie and had lots of fun as the cups slipped and slid everywhere!”

Should you start integrating sensory play into your child’s everyday life?

Of course! Sensory, Messy, tactile play are popular phrases at the moment and it will only increase as more research highlights the importance further.

Putting some time aside for your child to develop their senses is important and can be made simple with Zimpli Kids products. Just add water to our Gelli, Slime or SnoPlay and you have yourself a unique sensory activity -  that keeps kids quiet for hours!
